Samsung has announced their latest premium application processor, the Exynos 9 Series 8895. It is the companys first processor built on 10nm FinFet process technology with improved 3D transistor structure. This provides up to 27 percent higher performance, while consuming 40 percent less power than the 14nm technology.
The Exynos 9 Series 8895 processor is an octa-core processor comprising of Samsungs second generation custom designed CPU cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores. It packs ARMs Mali G71 GPU and supports up to 4K Ultra HD (4096 x 2160 pixels) display resolution for 4K virtual reality experience. The chip also supports videos recording and playback at a maximum resolution of 4K UHD at 120fps.
The processor is also first of its kind to embed a gigabit LTE modem that supports five carrier aggregation (5CA). It includes LTE Cat.16 modem that provides maximum download speed of 1Gbps (Cat.16) and upload speed of 150Mbps (Cat.13) with 2CA.
The chip also has separate processing unit for security solutio ns required for mobile payments that use iris or fingerprint recognition as well as an embedded Vision Processing Unit (VPU) that can recognize and analyze items or movements for improved video tracking, panoramic image processing, and machine vision technology.
The Exynos 9 Series 8895 is currently in mass production. It will most likely to be used in some models of the upcoming Galaxy S8, while the others will be powered by Snapdragon 835 chip.
